One of the stranger fake reports we’ve seen claims that foreign minister Najla al-Mangoush has US special forces protection. This is based on a picture of her in Ghat, with a bodyguard behind her wearing a badge on his belt. Another picture purports to show the badge.
The other picture is in fact a movie replica that can be bought online, with the same ID number, for what it says are the badges worn by CIA protection agents.
The body guard has attracted more fake news. One post claimed he was a Russian mercenary. Others that he was a foreign private security guard. He has in fact been identified by social media users as Abdel Salam al-Jihani from Misrata, who formerly worked with Ahmed Maiteeq.
